I am a potter turned painter. Images flash by, yet some are essential enough to penetrate the consciousness and last. I’ll dream of a painting for weeks before I start work on it, or paint one dynamically in an urgent moment of inspiration.
Showing common objects from our every day, painting what is urban and gritty, or exploring the crispness of nature, I seek to transport viewers to a moment in time or a place along a journey. I like to paint in series, starting at the representational and ending at the abstract.
I strive to paint the essential character of things using a range of techniques I am constantly actively expanding. Watercolors lend themselves perfectly to this endeavor for they are incredibly lively – and transparent, so I can render images filled with light. A lifelong student of the arts with many teachers along the way, my jeans are embedded with clay and stained with bright colors.
All children are artists. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.
I am happy to show you some of my favorites. I hope you enjoy them.
